WAD EDUCATION COUNCIL: ADVENTIST EDUCATION LEADERS RENEW THEIR COMMITMENT TO MISSION AND EXCELLENCE

Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, June 8–11, 2026 – Education leaders, school and university administrators, teachers, and Seventh-day Adventist Church leaders from the various unions of the Division gathered in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, from June 8 to 11, 2026, for the Education Council under the theme: “Grounded in the Bible, focused on the Mission, and Committed to Excellence.”
Held in a context of rapid societal and technological change, this important gathering provided participants with an opportunity to reflect on the challenges and opportunities facing the Adventist educational system. Discussions focused on academic excellence, the integration of faith and learning, the digital transformation of education, and the continuous professional development of teachers.
According to Professor Glory Baysah, Education Director of the West Africa Union Mission, the meeting was highly beneficial because “we have been instructed and equipped to better align our plans and strategies toward a competitive and high-quality educational system. We will incorporate everything we have learned into our system so that we may not only achieve our goals but do so with excellence.”
During the plenary sessions and workshops, presenters emphasized the central role of Adventist education in preparing young people to serve God and society. They reminded participants that Adventist institutions must remain centers of learning where the intellectual, spiritual, physical, and social development of students is harmoniously nurtured in accordance with the Church’s educational philosophy.

According to Professor Yetunde Alozie, Education Director of the West-Central Africa Division, these meetings were particularly significant because of the presence of education leaders from the General Conference.
“We attended enriching presentations, especially in areas where we face challenges. Upon our return, we will implement the guidance received in our institutions and education departments. With this momentum, we will actively participate in Voice 27 beginning September 2026 in order to help achieve the goals of the world church: ‘One Student, One Mission, One Voice by God’s grace, we will all be able to fulfill this commitment by September 2027,” she concluded.
Participants also reviewed strategies aimed at improving the quality of instruction, strengthening the governance of educ     ational institutions, and increasing the visibility of the Adventist school network. Special attention was given to the use of educational technologies to enhance learning and prepare students for the demands of the contemporary world.
“This training meeting is of vital importance. It has equipped us to achieve the objectives of the Education Ministry within our Division. As an institutional leader, I needed to understand the vision of the Education Department, to learn, and that is exactly what we accomplished during this training seminar. This training will enable us to better manage our institutions, including administrative, financial, and social governance,” emphasized Professor Aristide Toussaint, President of Cosendai University in Nanga-Eboko, Cameroon.
Division leaders encouraged educators to remain faithful to their mission while continuing to innovate in response to the needs of current generations. They stressed on the importance of developing institutions that reflect Christian values, promote excellence, and contribute to evangelism.
The Council was also marked by moments of prayer, experience-sharing, and testimonies from the various unions. These exchanges enabled participants to discover successful initiatives and explore new avenues of collaboration for the advancement of Adventist education throughout the Division.
At the conclusion of the meetings, delegates reaffirmed their commitment to promoting Christ-centered quality education capable of transforming lives and preparing learners for service both in this world and in the world to come.
This Division Education Council will remain a significant milestone in advancing the educational vision of the Seventh-day Adventist Church—to develop competent, principled, and committed men and women dedicated to serving God and humanity.
