CAPE VERDE : ADRA opens a new country office.
On Friday February 10, 2023, the ADRA Cabo Verde office was officially opened. The ceremony was presided over by Prof. Robert Osei-Bonsu, President of the West-Central Africa Division (WAD).
This date will be remembered as a historic day for the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) in Cape Verde. The event took place in a hotel in Praia, the capital city of the country, in the presence of several personalities from the State of Cabo Verde, including the Secretary of State for Social Inclusion, an Advisor to the President of the Republic and the President of the Platform of NGOs in Cabo Verde.
Accompanying the WAD President were his collaborators Pastor Sessou Selom, WAD Executive Secretary; Elder Markus Musa Dangana, WAD Treasurer and Pastor David Njock, President of the Western Sahel Union Mission who actively took part in the event.
In an interview on national television, the ADRA WAD Director, Pastor Emmanuel Amegnito, said he is aware of all the major challenges Cabo Verde is facing. He considers that ADRA's expertise will be useful in terms of economy, development, agriculture, health and education.
He promised to bring innovations in humanitarian operations in Cabo Verde, to identify vulnerable people, to work so that no child is left out of the education system, to guarantee the safety of vulnerable women, to facilitate access to health. And in this way, the vulnerable will turn to become a strength for Cabo Verde.
When asked about the organization’s funding, he mentioned international funds and European organizations as sources of funding. He also hopes to receive support from the Cabo Verde Government, which has long used Adventists as agents for distributing its funds for the fight against poverty.
Long awaited in the archipelago and having been actively present during the 1995 volcanic eruption, ADRA's arrival in Cabo Verde is a moment of fulfilment for many of the church's national leaders. The official opening ceremony of the ADRA agency was therefore an emotional moment for all those who are committed to a life of service in God's name to the poorest of the poor in these West African islands.
